St. Louis Cardinals minor leaguer embarrassingly rounded the bases after thinking he hit a home run on a fly out

Delvin Perez isn’t going to live this one down for awhile.

On Thursday, the Gwinnett Stripers (Atlanta Braves Triple-A affiliate) were facing the Memphis Redbirds (St. Louis Cardinals Triple-A affiliate) disaster struck for Perez. In the bottom of the sixth with no one on base and no outs, Perez lifted a ball out to deep left field but was eventually snagged by the outfielder.

Perez, on the other hand, thought he helped extend Memphis’ lead to 4-0 with a solo homer and started to round the bases with a home run trot. The Redbirds dugout and third base coach eventually clued Perez into the fly out and his reaction was just pure embarrassment.

Look, we’ve all been there. Premature celebrations are a staple in sports and this one absolutely tops the list.
