St Joseph's vs Rangers Europa League fixture confirmed as UEFA make final decision

Rangers will travel to Gibraltar to take on St Joseph's in their Europa League opener on Tuesday with a 4.55pm kick-off.

Record Sport exclusively revealed the tie was being moved after both clubs agreed on a rearranged date and Steven Gerrard and his players now know when the game will take place.

All that was needed was UEFA 's seal of approval and now the governing body have now given the green light after being locked in talks over the date change.

Europa FC sealed a 6-3 aggregate victory against Andorran side Sant Julia resulted in a clash with two Gibraltar Premier Division sides due to be at home on the Thursday night.

That logistical headache means one tie had to move from,July 11 and Rangers will head to the Rock two days earlier than initially anticipated.

Ibrox supporters had been waiting patiently for confirmation from the governing body and can now book their flights for the first round qualifier.

The Gibraltarians have offered up 1000 match tickets for travelling Ibrox supporters

The Small Island Games are also being held in Gibraltar next week which will result in accommodation issues and that led to discussions over the possibility of both games taking place in Glasgow.

Club sporting director John Paul Hendrick exclusively told Record Sport : “We spoke with representatives of Rangers and UEFA and the decision has been made to play the match in Gibraltar next Tuesday, July 9.

“Rangers needed some time to make arrangements so we agreed to this date. We have offered 960 tickets which Red Imps gave to Celtic a few years back.

“The possibility of playing both games at Ibrox was discarded and we believe we have come up with the best solution to keep everyone happy.

“The Island Games start this weekend and will be going on for a week so we had to consider that. The police will have a hard time but there’s not much more we can do - we have to play the game.”
