St Johnstone winger Drey Wright facing lengthy spell out after suffering knee injury

St Johnstone fear Drey Wright could be out for a significant spell with a knee injury.

The wide man was hurt away to Aberdeen where Saints drew 0-0 two weeks ago.

Wright is expected to learn the length of his absence when visiting a specialist later today.

Perth manager Steven MacLean admitted the 28-year-old probably won't be back in the short-term.

MacLean revealed: “Drey has injured his knee. He was injured in the Aberdeen game.

“He’s going to see a specialist on Monday evening and we will know more after that.

“It’s looking like he will be out a period of time. We don’t know exactly how long yet.

“It certainly won’t be just a couple of weeks. We will see what the specialist says and go from there.”

MacLean was forced to rule centre half Sam McClelland out for between two and three months only a few days ago.

McClelland sustained a high ankle sprain on international duty with Tommy Wright’s Northern Ireland Under 21 squad.

These are just the latest in a string of injury setbacks to beset bottom-of-the-table Saints this term.

Wright, who won multiple Player of the Year awards last season, missed six weeks with a calf problem picked up on opening day against Hearts.

Dan Phillips and defender Dare Olufunwa were ruled out ahead of Saturday's home game against Motherwell.

However, that was postponed because of Storm Babet and there are hopes that pair are set to return for the trip to St Mirren on Saturday.

Nicky Clark, out since February, could make his first appearance of the season in Paisley, while fellow striker Chris Kane is available again.

MacLean said: “Nicky and Kano were both good to go at the weekend there.

“Hopefully they’ll have had more football by the time we get to play the rearranged game against Motherwell.

“The one good thing is Dan Phillips might be fit and Dare, who trained at the end of the week, will definitely be back.”
