St Johnstone v Galatasary or PSV: Lanarkshire duo set for European glamour tie

By Ben McNicol

Bellshill’s Shaun Rooney and East Kilbride's Craig Bryson have been rewarded for their impeccable campaign last season,

St Johnstone were drawn to play against PSV Eindhoven or Galatasaray in the Europa League third-round qualifying this afternoon.

The ‘Bellshill Cafu’ was largely responsible for getting St Johnstone where they’re today after scoring the winner in both the Scottish Cup and League Cup final’s earlier in the year to complete a historic double for the Saints.

Rooney’s rise through the football ranks is inspirational. After leaving Dundee United in 2013, he joined Queen’s Park as Andy Robertson headed in the other direction.

The 24-year-old had brief spells at Dunfermline Athletic, York City, Queen of The South and Inverness before getting his well-deserved shot at the Premiership.

And now, he’ll be potentially facing off against one of the world’s greatest strikers, Radamel Falcao or former Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder, Mario Gotze.

The right-back has caught the eye of a couple of sides down south, including League One side Rotherham United, who’ve offered £200,000 for the defender, but it looks like he'll be remaining in Perth.
