St Johnstone's friendly off as St Mirren coaching staff test positive for COVID-19

St Johnstone’s weekend friendly has been called off after it was confirmed opponents St Mirren returned several positive tests for COVID-19.

Perth manager Callum Davidson was set to take his side through to Paisley as preparations for August’s Premiership kick-off entered their final stages.

The match was due to take place on Saturday but St Mirren’s positive test results - all members of the coaching staff - resulted in the cancellation.

Both the SFA and SPFL released a statement to provide confirmation.

It read: “The Joint Response Group has been notified that St Mirren Football Club has today returned seven positive tests for COVID-19.

"We immediately contacted the Scottish Government and the office of the Clinical Director for Scotland to relay this information.

"As a consequence, St Mirren’s planned friendly match at home to St Johnstone, scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 25, has been cancelled.

“In light of this and other recent events, the JRG hereby notifies Scottish Premiership clubs that with immediate effect they must revert to twice-weekly testing protocols until further notice.”
