St Johnstone legend Nick Dasovic gives new signing Theo Bair glowing reference

Nick Dasovic gave Theo Bair the St Johnstone nod of approval.

The striker's move to McDiarmid Park from Vancouver Whitecaps on a deal until the summer of 2024 was confirmed on Monday evening.

Canadian Dasovic, a real fans’ favourite during his time in Perth, coached Bair in the Whitecaps’ Under-23 set-up and has provided a glowing reference of the powerful forward.

The 22-year-old, a Canada international, has MLS experience and was recently loaned out to Norwegian second-tier team HamKam where he helped them win promotion.

“Theo’s natural strengths lie in his physical prowess,” Dasovic said. “He is tall – well over six foot – strong and athletic.

“Theo had a proven goal-scoring record during his academy days and has shown that he can score in the professional game in the MLS and during a loan spell in Norway.

"He is not only a real physical specimen, he has the capacity to make runs in behind the defensive blocks to stretch the game.

“Theo is a humble, hard-working young footballer with a big upside. I wish him well in Scotland, learning from Callum Davidson.”

Davidson has added depth to his squad – backed by chairman Steve Brown – as Saints attempt to steer themselves away from the threat of Championship relegation.

Prior to the Bair announcement, new faces Melker Hallberg, Dan Cleary, Tony Gallacher, Nadir Ciftci and John Mahon were welcomed for the basement battle. Dasovic is confident that Bair can impress.

He said: “Although St Johnstone are in a tough position at the moment the fans might have to show some patience because playing in Scotland is very different to playing in North America.

“I did speak to Theo about the possibility of joining St Johnstone when it was first mentioned and I was very happy to recommend the club to him.

“He had a great year in Norway and he has been looking sharp in pre-season.

“I have no doubt that the St Johnstone supporters will be pleased at what they are going to see.”
