Stevie May is not concerned about St Johnstone’s lack of goals – but admits there is plenty to work on over the international break.
The local striker was a second-half substitute as Saturday’s battle of the Saints ended in stalemate and served up a lack of entertainment.
It was a blank that means the Perth side have only found the back of the net eight times in their opening 13 Premiership matches.
That is the lowest in the division but May is confident the tide will turn in the forward department as the season progresses.
“It’s not a worry for us,” he told the PA. “On Saturday we had a solid enough foundation that we managed to keep a clean sheet.
“Last season we would have been the low end of the scorers but were still hugely successful. It shows you can still have success without banging in however many goals in a game.”
That said, May was not making excuses for Saints’ performance in the 0-0 draw and added: “It wasn’t a good game from our point of view.
“Myself and Shaun Rooney came on at half-time and tried to add energy. You obviously have visions of coming on to win the game but it wasn’t to be. As a full team, everyone needs to be better.
“The positive you do take is that we didn’t play well but managed to get a point and a clean sheet.
“We need to move the ball much better, press better as a team throughout the game and do better when we get into good areas. There is a lot to work on because that was a lot lower than the standards we’ve set.
"We have the break now to regroup. It’s important we see what we did wrong and fully focus on the next game."
The international break will present Saints with time to find their shooting boots ahead of a huge fixture in two weeks’ time. Next up is the League Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden on November 20.
