St Johnstone complete Daniel Phillips signing as midfielder pens two-year deal

ST JOHNSTONE have completed the signing of midfielder Daniel Phillips with the former Watford man penning a two-year deal.

The Perth club fought off interest from down south with two English League One clubs also eyeing the 21-year-old's signature.

Phillips will boost Saints' midfield personnel after they picked up their first three points of the season against Motherwell on Saturday.

The Trinidad and Tobago internationalist was released by Watford earlier this summer and impressed on trial in Perth.

The tough-tackling midfielder stood out in training and also starred in a bounce game against Arbroath.

Phillips will add some much-needed legs to Callum Davidson’s side and will be a welcome addition to the Perth midfield.

The former Gillingham loanee and his representatives travelled to Perth today and signed on the dotted line of a two-year deal.

This means Phillips will remain in Perth until at least 2024 and he will go straight into Davidson's squad for Rangers away on Saturday.

The defensive midfielder came through the Chelsea and Watford youth ranks and is now a regular with the Trinidad and Tobago national team.
