St James' Swifts announce Pat McAllister and Barry Johnston as new management team

St James' Swifts have announced the appointment of Pat McAllister and Barry Johnston as the club's new management team.

The experienced pair recently parted company with Sport and Leisure Swifts.

They have wasted no time in getting back into football, and will now take the helm at Ballymena and Provincial Intermediate League outfit St James'.

McAllister will be manager with Johnston as his assistant.

The club said in a statement: "St James' Swifts are delighted to announce the appointment of Patrick McAllister & Barry Johnston for the upcoming 2019/2020 season.

"Both men who have incredible footballing backgrounds will take up the reins at the first team as they seek the ultimate goal of promotion into the NIFL.

"With Packy having trained the Swifts when they first started back in 2010 he is now coming in to use his experience to try and guide the club to more success.

"Packy has had previous spells with S&L & guided local team Donegal Celtic to the Irish Premiership."

McAllister spent five years at Sport and Leisure Swifts and drafted in former Irish League midfielder Johnston in a coaching capacity last season.

St James' added: "Barry Johnston, who has been a footballing icon in the Irish league for many years, recently took up his role in the Cliftonville set-up and has further decided to come in and also help take the club to the next level of where we aim to be.

"With this season just ending and the next season starting in less than two months time the boys will be straight into action and we hope our supporters can get out in numbers next season to get behind them and the team as we take on our 10th anniversary season of football!

"Welcome to the club."
