St James's Hospital worker run over by thieves at car park

A member of staff at St James's Hospital was rushed to A&E after being knocked over by thieves who fled after being caught red-handed.

A group of two or three men were spotted nicking a catalytic converter from a Honda Civic in the staff car park at St James’s Hospital at around 2.15pm on Friday, February 14.

Hospital workers rushed outside to try and stop them from getting away, but the men sped off in a Ford Focus.

As they fled the scene, they knocked a 30-year-old man to the ground and left him with injuries that needed A&E treatment. He is still recovering at home, more than two weeks on from the incident.

Police are now appealing for information after they were unable to identify the men from CCTV enquiries.

The trio also stole another catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius at the Esso station, in Aire Valley Road, Temple Green at around 11.30am on the same day.

They got away in the same blue / grey Ford Focus, which had a cloned registration plate of KX57 BGU.

The men were said to be wearing sports clothing, with the lower half of their faces covered.

DI Richard Holmes, of Leeds District CID, said: "Although the suspects are unfortunately not identifiable on the CCTV images we are still interested in hearing from anyone who has seen them or the Ford Focus they were using either in the vicinity of either offence or anywhere else.

"The victim who was knocked down is still continuing to recover from his injuries and it’s vital that we catch those responsible for injuring him."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4159 Fisher at Leeds District CID via 101 quoting crime reference 13200081789 or online via the force's online chat service .

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
