St James’s CE Secondary School and Harper Green School in Bolton are expanding

Two schools have been given the green light for expansion.

Plans to demolish old buildings to make way for more classrooms at two Farnworth schools were approved by councillors yesterday.

St James’s CE Secondary School will get a new two-storey building complete with five classrooms and a dining hall.

At Harper Green School, seven modular buildings will be demolished to make way for nine new classrooms, toilets and office facilities.

Elsewhere in the borough, some pupils at Westhoughton High County Secondary School will use temporary portable buildings for 12 weeks while extension works at the Bolton Road site continue.

Planning permission was granted for two units with double classrooms and one unit with a single classroom which will remain on site until ongoing construction is complete.

The work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the calendar year.

Plans from all three schools were unanimously approved.
