St Helens town centre apartments scheme set to go ahead

Planning for an apartment scheme in St Helens has been secured which will see a two-block residential development come to the town centre.

Liverpool-based MBED Architects has successfully achieved full planning consent for 61 apartments, which will be located south of Crab Street and close to the junction with Union Street.

The site is close to transport routes with easy access into the town centre and is available for purchase.

Mark Bennett, director of MBED Architects, said: "We are delighted to have secured full planning consent for our client with this scheme.

"There is a real need for this type of development in the borough and St Helens Council has been keen to demonstrate its support. With this backing, it is likely that there will be significant interest in the scheme."

MBED Architects said the proposed apartments have been arranged in an L-shape, to create a sense of "place and community," with every unit benefitting from its own car parking space, including three accessible spaces, all situated at ground level.

They said apartments would be ideally suited to a range of tenures, including affordable.
