A theatre company has been praised for its kind gesture after announcing 'pay what you can afford' tickets for its final panto show of the festive season.
St Helens Theatre Royal is offering what it calls ‘our gesture to those most in need’ and has thanked people for their kind words in response to the offer. The pay what you can code REGAL100 goes live today at 10am and is valid when booking up to four tickets for Cinderella on Sunday, January 8 at 5pm. You can book here.
Sharing news of the offer on its social media platforms, the theatre company said: “Our gesture to those most in need in this time or crisis. The remaining tickets for our final show (Jan 8 at 5pm) of Cinderella will be “Pay What You Can”.

“We kindly request for this not to be seen as a “freebie”’ or something to taken advantage of. Reserved for those who cannot join us under any circumstances.”
There is a limit to four tickets per order. People were quick to share their support for the theatre. Victoria Bailey said: “This is so beautiful and kind. Hope the people that want to go to these shows but can never afford to do so for what ever the reason get the tickets they would like.”
David Gaskell added: “What an amazing gesture. If only all theatres would do similar. What a great night out for people who wouldn't normally be able to go. We saw it before Christmas and it was brill.”
Zoe Greenall said: “Well done St Helens Theatre Royal this is a brilliant thing to do”. Kathryn McNally added: “That’s such a brilliant thing to do. My daughter loved the show before Christmas and hope all the deserving families enjoy the show”.
And Fiona Eades added: “Really kind gesture and I hope this benefits families that could really do with this and a little treat for their little ones. We went last week and this was a really good show, giggles all round”.
