St Helens star suspended for Wigan Warriors derby after red card

Tommy Makinson will miss Friday's derby after receiving a three-match ban following his red card against Castleford Tigers.

The St Helens winger was dismissed after making direct contact to the head of Tigers fullback Niall Evalds during the champions' defeat on Thursday.

He has now been slapped with a three-match suspension that will rule him out of Friday's showdown with the Warriors. Makinson has been cited for a grade c 'high tackle' which will rule him out for a key period in Saints' season.

It's a blow for head coach Kristian Woolf, who was also without Welsh winger Regan Grace last week with a shoulder injury.

However, Grace is expected to return on Friday and should be recalled alongside Morgan Knowles, another absentee for last week's defeat at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

No Wigan players have received bans this week following their defeat to Hull KR, with Rovers utility Brad Takairangi also avoiding a suspension despite an incident that left Sam Powell ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Two other players, Leeds Rhinos' Rhyse Martin and Salford Red Devil's Matty Costello, have been suspended for one game after been charged for dangerous contact, both at grade b.
