Out of all the restaurants, pubs and takeaways in St Helens, seven have been given a five star rating for hygiene - the highest possible score for a food outlet in 2021.
According to the most recent results on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website, these St Helens food venues have received full marks from council hygiene inspectors so far this year.

We have listed all of those that have been given top marks by the experts.
We have not included all venues across the borough rated, but you can find the full list of ALL five star rated venues across St Helens, on the Food Standards Agency's website.

How is the scoring done?
The scores are done by local authority hygiene teams. A health officer will look at three criteria types during an inspection:
- How hygienically the food is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored.
- The cleanliness, layout, lighting and ventilation of the building.
- How the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe.
The Food Standards Agency says that to achieve a five star rating businesses must do well in all three elements.
