St Helens man scoops £236,774 in Football Pools

A St Helens man has scooped almost quarter-of-a-million pounds on the Football Pools, thanks to a series of injury-time equalisers in Australian football.

The Classic Pools player, known only as "Brian" banked £236,774 as a result of three matches ending in score draws following very late levellers.

The long standing Classic Pools player won on a bonus line which he had added to his entry a few years back.

He said: “I can’t believe it! I’ve been playing for years and this just goes to show you that anyone can win and it’s worth getting extra lines because they are truly worth it.

"This win has come just the right time for myself and my family. We’ve had some sad times recently but things are on the up, and my son gets married soon, so the money will really help – it’s amazing.”

Whilst UK football doesn’t start up again until August, Classic Pools doesn’t stop and it was three results from the summer leagues that sealed this win.

Derek Lloyd, Chief Executive of The Football Pools, said: “It’s exciting to have a big local winner and always a pleasure to surprise someone with news of big win when they haven’t checked the results, but we always do.

"Creating winners is what we are about, we’ve being doing this since 1923, it’s a fantastic amount of money to win and one more result would have netted our Top Prize of £3million.”

Only yesterday the The Football Pools, the world’s oldest football gaming company, launched a game with the biggest football predicting prize pot ever offered, a staggering £10 million.

Olympic gold medal winning hockey star Sam Quek and former Premier League footballer Jermaine Jenas unveiled the new game to Pools customers who download the new footie5 app.
