St Helens have another game postponed due to Covid cases at rival club

St Helens' game against Hull KR has been postponed after fresh coronavirus cases left Rovers unable to fulfil the fixture.

As first reported by Hull Live, the match was left in serious doubt after players who featured in Friday’s win over Wigan Warriors tested positive for Covid-19 over the weekend.

It has now emerged that as many as three individuals returned positive results, in addition to the two already reported last week.

Nine other members of Tony Smith’s squad have been forced to self-isolate after being classed as close contacts, including players who had selected by the Combined Nations All Stars for the game against England.

Under Super League rules, clubs can withdraw from a fixture if they have seven players ruled out as a direct result of Covid-19.

The clubs will liaise with the Rugby Football League over the possibility of rearranging the match for later in the season, although the schedule is already heavily congested.

The clash becomes the fourth fixture to be postponed in recent weeks as Super League grapples with a fresh wave of coronavirus.

Leeds Rhinos have been forced to postpone their last two fixtures against St Helens and Catalans Dragons, while Huddersfield Giants’ clash with Wigan was also called off.
