St George's and Smithfield Markets Belfast in pictures and video through the years

They are both steeped in a rich history in the city and are still hives of activity today.

Belfast's St George's and Smithfield Markets are hubs for friends meeting each other and traders selling goods.

St George's was originally opened in 1890 for selling butter, eggs, poultry and eventually fruit. Now it runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and attracts thousands of locals and tourists.

Smithfield Market is located in the heart of Belfast's retail district and contains a range of shops and a café. It is open Monday to Saturday, but closed on a Sunday.

Take a trip down memory lane and see how the markets have changed and share your own memories of the markets with us.
