St Enoch Christmas market in Glasgow - opening times, stalls and everything else we know so far

Christmas is only next month and with the countdown now on, many are wondering about the festive season and things to do.

Whilst many were looking forward to the George Square Christmas market, it was sadly announced in October that this would be cancelled for 2021.

A spokesperson for Market Place Europe - operators of Glasgow Christmas Market said: “The Glasgow Loves Christmas team explored every option with ourselves to make George Square market possible this Christmas.

"Unfortunately we haven’t been able to create a mutually agreeable plan for this venue."

This is the second year in a row it has been cancelled with the market having been scrapped in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.

Despite the bad news, the good news is that the St Enoch Christmas market will go ahead - but what do we know so far?

When will the St Enoch Christmas market open and close in Glasgow?

The festive market in St Enoch will be open from November 21 until December 23.

The opening times are from 10am until 7pm from Monday to Wednesday and 10am until 8pm from Thursday until Sunday.

How much is the entry fee for Glasgow's St Enoch Christmas market 2021?

Entry to the city centre Christmas market is completely free - regardless of age or numbers in your party.

Which stalls will be at the St Enoch Square Christmas market?

Accoridng to the Glasgow Times, Mr Kokkalis will be back with his delicious Greek Gyros as well as Mrs Puller with her candied nuts & Belgian treats.

The popular Ranch Bar will also move to St Enoch with the George Square market cancelled.

Chief executive of Market Place, Nick Rhodes told the newspaper: "The arrival of the Christmas Market at St Enoch is always eagerly anticipated. It’s fantastic to see so many visitors enjoy the Market every year – both locals and visitors alike.

"Having the Market in the heart of the city provides an invaluable boost to the city’s retail and tourism offering.

"We’re delighted that once again the sights and sounds of the Glasgow Christmas Market will form a focal point for the city centre during the festive season and we encourage people to visit and explore everything else that this wonderful city has to offer."

In addition to the gifts that will be on offer such as Mr Benz's clothing with his dresses, hats, scarves and gloves, there will also be the return of some much-loved foods which includes crepes, Dutch pancakes, Belgian chocolates, giant bratwurst and an exotic selection of ostrich, wild boar and crocodile burgers will also go on sale.

Some new tastes for visitors to try this year will year include Noodles, Pad Thai, Salt and Chilli Chicken and HellFire Wings - if you're up for some spice!

Will I need a vaccine passport?

Previous reports suggested that members of the public would need proof of vaccination and a negative lateral flow test - however we have clarified with market organisers and this is not the case.

A spokesperson for Market Place Europe told Glasgow Live that the Scottish Government only requires this for events with more than 4,000 people. With a maximum capacity of 3,250, locals and tourists visiting the market will be asked to wear face masks, maintain social distancing, use card rather than cash and avoid unnecessary handling of goods.

They added that these measures will ensure they are following the Scottish Government guidelines as they will also place hand sanitisers throughout whilst those working at the event will be asked to test regularly.

Sadly however, no food or drink samples will be available.
