St Cuthbert Wanderers boss relieved with point at Lochmaben after fearing it was "going to be one of those days"

St Cuthbert Wanderers boss Jordan Williamson was glad to escape Lochmaben with a point after thinking it was “going to be one of those days”.

The St Mary’s Park gaffer felt his side dominated proceedings but fell behind to a Danny Collins goal.

Russell Williamson struck late on to level things up before Saints had Cameron Taylor dismissed for a second booking.

Williamson said: “We’re just glad to get away with something. It was one of those days when you didn’t think it was going to go into the net.

“We fought against the wind in the first half but I think we coped with it quite well.

“We came out fired up with the wind at our backs in the second half and bombarded their goal. We maybe actually struggled a bit with the wind behind us as we maybe didn’t get our range or fire off pot shots from 20 yards which you do when the wind is with you.

“We hit both posts and the crossbar and their goalkeeper released his inner Gordon Banks by tipping over one that was bound for the bottom corner.

“Eventually one went into the net and we’ll take a point considering we thought it was going to be one of those days.”

After picking up seven points from three away games, Saints are finally back in Kirkcudbright this weekend when they host Lochar Thistle.

And Williamson is looking forward to enjoying some home comforts for a change.

He said: “We said to the players that in the two weeks we have been on plastic pitches they played quality football and steamrollered teams. Saturday was back on grass and we maybe need to do more training on grass parks if that’s possible.

“This weekend we’re back on plastic, which should be more comfortable and allow us to play the style of football we’re trying to develop.

“We’re looking to pick up three points to keep ourselves up among the teams at the top.”

Saints have boosted their squad this week by bringing in youngster Scott Dunn from Queen of the South.

And he’s a player Williamson knows well, having worked with him at both Airdrie and Queen’s Park.

He said: “We tried to sign him in the summer and when we heard he’d signed with Queens we worked to get him in on loan.

“He’s a defender who is tall, strong, athletic and has been full-time so he gives us flexibility and depth.

“I’m looking forward to working with him again. Hopefully he can develop with us and help us at the same time.

"I’d like to thank Willie Gibson at Queens for his help."
