St Cuthbert Wanderers boss praises players after 5-1 hammering of Heston Rovers at Palmerston

St Cuthbert Wanderers put in a five-star performance at Palmerston on Saturday.

The Kirkcudbright side ran out comfortable winners against Heston Rovers in one of just two South of Scotland League games to beat the wind and rain.

Boss Jordan Williamson said: “At the start of the day I was worried as I was hearing that the game might be called off, which we didn’t want as we knew it was a great opportunity to get three points.

“It went ahead and we’re glad it did as it was emphatic from us.

“We created so many chances and it could have been five or six in the second half alone. The level of performance, desire and hunger was there and it was great to watch from the sidelines.

“We knew the park was so big it would suit the way we played and the boys deserve a lot of credit for their performance.”

Dale Milligan gave Saints the lead after a couple of minutes and he added a second soon after, finishing well after exchanging passes with Elliot Harris.

There was some hope for the hosts when Gregor Patterson gave away a penalty and Craig Adamson scored from the spot, only for Heston to then concede a penalty themselves. Milligan took it as he looked to complete his hat-trick but sent his effort wide.

But they restored their two goal advantage after an hour when Milligan set up Russell Williamson to score.

Milligan did finally complete his hat-trick 20 minutes from the end and Sean Peat rounded off the scoring from a Sebastian Teneggi pass.

This weekend Saints are back on league duty as they head to Kilmarnock to face Bonnyton Thistle.

Williamson said: “We know it will be a hard game. Paul Wright always has them well organised but it’s game we’re looking forward to as we’re looking to continue with the performances from the last few weeks.”
