St Cuthbert Wanderers are “gathering momentum” ahead of the South of Scotland League title race run-in.
The Kirkcudbright side have won their last 11 league games on the spin to top the table at the end of 2021 with a four point cushion over nearest rivals Threave Rovers.
And gaffer Jordan Williamson has challenged his players to stay there and earn a shot at promotion to the Lowland League.
He said: “We want to keep the winning run going in 2022 and give ourselves the best possible chance of staying where we are.
“It was tough at the start of the season with the heavy chunk of fixtures, which is where we dropped our points.
“We now have 11 wins in a row, which shows the boys are gathering momentum. The performances are starting to pick up.
“At the start of the season we maybe scraped through or picked up wins off the cuff but the performances are now starting to match the results.
“We’ve gone away and played teams in different leagues and matched up against them. We’re developing well as the season goes on. It’s all good and well starting well but you need to keep going and make sure you’re confident going into the business end of the season.”
The South league is currently shut down for Christmas, with Saints not in action again until they face Creetown on January 8.
He said: “We know the areas of the park we need to strengthen. With the situation we’re in, if we can bring in one or two of the players we’ve been looking at over the break just to strengthen us then hopefully we can build even more on how good we’ve been so far.”
