St Cuthbert Wanderers aiming for back-to-back wins to finish 2019 on a high

St Cuthbert Wanderers are aiming for two wins to end 2019 on a high.

The Kirkcudbright side round out the year with two games at St Mary’s Park, Saturday’s game against Upper Annandale being followed by a home game against Wigtown & Bladnoch the following weekend.

Boss Jordan Williamson said: “We’re looking at the last two fixtures of 2019 as ones we can get six points from.

“We have played them twice already at theirs this season and they won them both. I think home advantage will be a big factor again on Saturday.

“A couple of boys have said they will be out on Friday night as it’s the last Friday before Christmas. We’re a part-time club and we can’t stop boys going out, especially as it’s only one night a year.

“The good thing is we now have boys that can come in for them that we can trust as we have a good squad. We should have a full bench as well, so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.”

Williamson has been satisfied with what he’s seen from his players in the last few weeks, even though they have ultimately lost out to Mid Annandale and Bonnyton Thistle.

The game against Thistle on Saturday ended in a 3-1 defeat, Marc Walker bagging a brace for the hosts with Blair McKnight also on target.

Williamson said: “It’s been the same the past two weeks and it shows how far we’ve come that we are competing with these top six teams.

“Against Mids we were unlucky not to come away with points and on Saturday it was the same. We just gave away goals with individual errors. Players are making silly decisions or they’re not clearing their lines and the opposition is taking advantage of us.

“It’s still an individual error. However, the good thing is they are happening less and less and it’s something we can work on.”
