St Cuthbert Wanderers are looking to bounce back against Bonnyton Thistle in the SFA South Region Challenge Cup on Saturday.
The Kirkcudbright side were knocked out of the Cree Lodge Cup by Nithsdale Wanderers in their last game – a rare defeat for the South of Scotland League leaders.
Boss Jordan Williamson said: “The boys are looking forward to Saturday after the slip up of a couple of weeks ago when we rotated the squad and gave boys a chance.
“That defeat has been a wake up call to put the hunger back into the boys to make things right and give a good account of ourselves.
“This is a good opportunity for us to test ourselves and see where we’re at in relation to the other leagues and preparing for the potential of bigger games as the season progresses.
“The boys are looking forward to it. We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves but this is also a good opportunity for boys to cement their place for the Scottish Cup the following week.”
Although Bonnyton play in the West of Scotland League, the Kilmarnock side are somewhat familiar opponents as they played in the South of Scotland League a few years ago.
Williamson added: “They’ve always been strong when we’ve come up against them.
“They were a good strong side when they were part of the South league.
“They’ve gone to the West and have found themselves struggling in the Premier Division, while we want to compete against the teams at the top of that league at the end of the season in the play-offs.
“We know it’ll be a tough game but we’re looking at it in a positive light and hopefully we can progress.
“We have watched a couple of games, either in person or video, so we will try to nullify their threats and reduce the chances of them using their strengths as much as possible.
“Hopefully we can be on the front foot from the off.
“I’m sure they’ll be expecting a tough game but outside of Dumfries and Galloway nobody really takes notice of the league or the clubs in terms of the quality some of the teams in the league do have. Hopefully we can catch them cold and get ourselves back to winning ways.”
