St Andrew's Hospice: whisky tasting to raise funds for capital appeal

St Andrew’s Hospice will host its annual whisky tasting evening next week to raise funds for its capital appeal.

The Airdrie charity’s fourth annual whisky event takes place at 1599 at the Royal College in Glasgow next Friday, March 6.

It is sponsored by Scotch whisky specialists Douglas Laing & Co, and includes a three-course meal and the opportunity to sample five vintage malt whiskies.

They will be presented by the firm’s master blender, and the event is described as “a discovery tour of whisky from the Lowlands to the Highlands and islands”, with the expert sharing “vast knowledge of one of Scotland’s most-loved exports [and] giving new insights into the fascinating world of whisky”.

Proceeds will go towards the hospice’s Capital Appeal to fund the refurbishment project, completed two years ago, which transformed its Henderson Street home to have 21 single and three multi-occupancy rooms, all with en-suites, garden access and state-of-the-art, practical features to aid care.

Fundraising for the £9 million project continues to be vital for St Andrew’s, with hospice officials confirming: “Although the refurbishment works concluded in March 2018, we still have approximately £1.3m to raise.”

Capital appeal director Karen McFadyen said: “The support of companies like Douglas Laing & Co is absolutely invaluable to us, our patients and their loved ones, and to the people of Lanarkshire; and we hope the evening will be another great success for the appeal.”
