St Ambrose High School pupil tests positive for coronavirus

A pupil at St Ambrose High School has tested positive for coronavirus.

The teen is now the fourth pupil at the school in Coatbridge confirmed in the outbreak, with the Lanarkshire cluster rising to nine.

The pupil was already identified as a close contact and continues to self-isolate at home. There is currently no evidence to suggest there is transmission in the school.

The NHS has confirmed a link between clusters in north east Glasgow and in Lanarkshire, centred around a number of school pupils, most of whom did not attend school when it started back, with the exception of one Bannerman High student in the east end.

The identification of this new positive case is linked to NHS Lanarkshire’s community-wide investigation.

This now includes confirmation of four pupils from St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge, one pupil from Caldervale High School and one pupil at St Andrew’s High School in Coatbridge testing positive for Covid-19 along with three other linked cases who are not pupils or staff at the schools.

It comes after 49 new coronavirus cases were reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall total to 19,407.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said that a provisional 12 of those are in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, with a further six in Lanarkshire.
