SSPCA wildlife rescue unit appeals for food aid

The Scottish SPCA is appealing to animal lovers to donate food for the wild animals currently in the care of the small mammals and fox units at their National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross.

The wildlife hospital operates 365 days a year, but are always particularly busy in the summer months.

The centre is currently caring for 50 hedgehogs, 42 hoglets, 16 bats, six wild rabbits, one leveret, and 52 foxes.

They are running extremely low on Royal Canin mousse, Royal Canin milk, Brambles hedgehog food, and tins of dog food in jelly.

Food can be purchased from the centre’s Amazon wish list or via any other online retailer offering direct delivery to the centre.

Centre manager Chris Hogsden, said: “We are desperately needing food donations for the small mammals and foxes in our care.

“We are hand-rearing a high number of animals at the minute, so their dietary needs change depending on the stage they are at in their rehabilitation.

“The summer months are our busiest periods, and we are going through a huge amount of food to get the animals in our care strong and healthy enough to survive in the wild.

“We are so thankful for your support so that we can continue to provide the best possible care to Scotland’s beautiful wildlife.

“We’d be so grateful for any donations that people can spare, and our hungry residents will be too.”

Items can also be handed in daily between 1pm and 4pm to the reception at the Scottish SPCA National Wildlife Rescue Centre, Fishcross, Clackmannanshire FK10 3AN.
