SSPCA launch appeal after seriously ill dog found in Lanarkshire park

A seriously ill dog has been found in Duchess Park, Motherwell.

The SSPCA, who have an animal rescue centre in Hamilton, are appealing for information after a member of the public found the female black and white Staffordshire bull terrier cross on May 23.

When found, the animal had a large weeping lump and swollen paws.

SSPCA inspector Jack Marshall told Lanarkshire Live : "The poor dog was very unwell when found.

"The member of the public who found her reported that she had a large lump on her underside that was weeping and swollen paws.

"We immediately took the dog to a vet to receive the veterinary attention she needed.

"The dog was found to have a large mammary tumour that had ruptured. She also had chronically thickened skin on her feet and ears and had several overgrown claws.

"The dog had no collar when she was found and we have been unable to trace the owner so far.

"Although she was found in Motherwell we believe the dog could also have links to the Wishaw area."

The SSPCA are urgently trying to trace the dog’s owner and ask anyone with any information or who recognises the dog to contact their confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
