SSPCA issue urgent appeal for much needed hay donations due to influx of rabbits

The Scottish SPCA is appealing to animal lovers to donate much needed hay to its Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

All nine of the Scottish SPCA rescue and rehoming centres are still closed to the public.

Although virtual rehoming is now available via the Scottish SPCA website, due to lockdown restrictions they have a higher than usual number of animals in their care, including an influx of rabbits.

everal of the rabbits in their care are also pregnant, with their babies only adding to the demand for food.

Centre manager Gillian Boyle said: “We are appealing for hay and other items for our rabbits.

“We’re currently caring for 52 rabbits, so we are going through our hay supplies much faster than usual.

“This includes mums with litters of babies, so it can be a struggle to keep up with so many hungry mouths to feed.

“We would greatly appreciate donations of hay through our Amazon wish list.

“Items purchased through Amazon can be sent directly to our centre, but they can also be bought elsewhere and dropped off to us.

“We understand that times are difficult just now but if anyone can help us care for these bunnies, we would be so thankful for anything that people can spare.”

Hay and other items the centre are in need of can be purchased from the centre’s Amazon wishlist.
