SSE Airtricity to increase household electricity prices in March

SSE Airtricity is set to raise the price of its household electricity in March this year.

The energy provider confirmed the decision today saying it was due to increases in the cost of using the electricity network and market charges.

However it says that customers will still be paying less for their electricity than they did in the summer of last year due to a previous five per cent reduction as a response to the pandemic.

It says that the standard price of electricity will increase by 3.9%, which will see the average customer pay 43p more a week.

David Manning, Director of Home Energy at SSE Airtricity, said: “Having lowered our prices last year, today’s announcement is difficult. However, as is the case for all suppliers, pass-through charges outside our control have increased materially – including electricity network and market charges.

"We have made every effort to absorb these costs through the winter in order to reduce the impact on our customers. As always, we will do everything we can to assist our customers and encourage anyone that is having difficulty with their bills to please contact us and we will work with you to find a solution together.”
