The world-class tropical paradise Sri Panwa resort is to host a two-day pop-up restaurant by chef Ryujiro Nakamura of Tokyo’s two Michelin-starred Sushi Umi on Feb 11-12.
Nakamura began his career by studying the art of sushi in Kanazawa when he was 18. At the age of 26, he got the chance to work at a legendary restaurant Sushi Umi alongside his mentor sushi masterchef Nagano.
The eight-seat restaurant has for over four decades been treasured for its prime sushi and sashimi prepared with the freshest ingredients right in front of the guests.
After the passing of his mentor, Sushi Umi is now run by Nakamura, who has re-energised the place while keeping to the same quality, perfection and exceptional skill that made Sushi Umi famous.
Under his direction, the restaurant has retained its two Michelin stars and is still revered as one of the very best restaurants in Tokyo. He lives by the words of his late master on his quest for perfection: “Pressing sushi is less art, and more heart.”
For a limited group of sushi connoisseurs in Thailand, Nakamura will present a series of omakase lunch and dinner at Sri Panwa’s Japanese restaurant, Baba Iki, and amid breathtaking Andaman ocean views high atop Phuket island’s Cape Panwa.
Meals are by reservation only and available also for non-hotel guests. Prices are 10,000 baht per person for lunch and 12,000 baht per person dinner.
