The Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kusal Perera has been sent home from their tour of New Zealand after testing positive for a banned substance.

A statement from Sri Lanka Cricket said Perera had failed a random test during the recent tour of Pakistan. The wicketkeeper, who played in five one-day internationals and two Twenty20 matches during the tour, will be replaced by Kaushal Silva in New Zealand with his B sample due to be tested.

“In view of this and in terms of the applicable ICC regulations, SLC has recalled Perera from New Zealand,” the statement said.

Perera becomes the second Sri Lankan cricketer to fail a doping test. Batsman Upul Tharanga was suspended for three months after testing positive during the 2011 World Cup.
