Sri Lanka was struggling at 8 for 208 at tea after losing five wickets in the middle session on day three of the second Test against Australia at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
Captain Mahela Jayawardene (69 not out) was leading a lone charge as the tourists chased Australia's massive first innings total of 5 for 542.

All the Australian bowlers have taken wickets with Brett Lee the pick, his 3 for 58 including the most recent scalp of Dilhara Fernando, caught behind for 2.
Farveez Maharoof was disastrously run out for 19 after a mix-up involving his runner Prasanna Jayawardene, who himself was earlier dismissed for a duck, caught behind off the bowling of the mostly luckless Stuart Clark.
Stuart MacGill (2 for 70) clean-bowled Sanath Jayasuriya for 3 in the fourth over after lunch, the veteran batsman deceived by a tossed-up delivery which went straight through the gate and took off stump.
He then fizzed a leg break away from middle and off, enticing a big swipe from Chamara Silva (4) who only succeeded in edging the ball behind to Gilchrist.
First session
Australia made early inroads with openers Marvan Atapattu and Michael Vandort unable to build greatly on their overnight scores.
Lee was responsible for the dismissals of both batsmen, first removing Vandort's middle pole in just the sixth over of the day to send him packing for 14.
Four overs later he had Atapattu (25) swiping at a searing, swinging delivery which zoomed to gully and was well taken by Michael Clarke at the second attempt.
Clark opened the bowling and was tight without much luck, but the pressure eventually told just seven minutes before lunch when Mitchell Johnson dismissed danger man Kumar Sangakkara.
Sangakkara, who missed the first Test in Brisbane with a torn hamstring, slashed a delivery to Michael Hussey at gully and was out for 57.
Sangakkara could quite easily have been dismissed when he was on 4, but the third umpire gave him the benefit of the doubt when Hussey could not be sure whether he took a low, diving catch at gully off Lee.
Then when he was on 13, Sangakkara edged a chance behind but wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist somehow contrived to grass an easy chance.
