SRH vs RR, IPL Qualifier 2, Chennai weather update: No rain threat but excessive humidity will test players

The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season is down to its last two matches, both of which will be played at the MA Chidamabaram Stadium in Chennai, with Friday set to witness Qualifier 2 between the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals in humid conditions.

The winner of Qualifier 2 will meet two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final on May 26.

SRH had finished second on the points table and will have their second and last shot at a place in the final after losing to KKR in a one-sided Qualifier 1 in Ahmedabad. Rajasthan got the better of RCB in the Eliminator to book a virtual semi-final with the Sunrisers.

While the weather forecast doesn't show any rain, the humidity levels are expected to be high as usual during this part of the year in Chennai.

The overall forecast for May 24 says 'humid with periods of clouds and sunshine'.

The game is scheduled for a 1930 IST start, which makes weather conditions in the evening more important, where the temperate is expected to be around 31 degrees Celsius, but excessive humidity in the range of 80% with a cloud cover of 99% will make it feel like 38 degrees Celsius.

So the players can expect a testing day in the office, with dew likely to make conditions tougher to field and bowl.
