Squiggly Bridge to close for eight weeks from today for maintenance

The Tradeston Footbridge, otherwise known as the Squiggly Bridge, is to close for eight weeks.

City bosses issued the announcement last week.

The Squiggly Bridge will close on Monday May 17 at midnight until July 2 and will be resurfaced, cleaned and partially painted.

The closure is set to affect commuters with signposted diversions in place.

Traffcom said: "In order to carry out maintenance works at Tradeston Footbridge Phase 1 (resurfacing, cleaning, partial painting), the footbridge will require to be closed for 8 weeks from 00:01 hours on Monday 17th of May 2021 to the Friday 2nd July 2021.

"The diversions required are local and will be signposted as appropriate."

The Squiggly Bridge was opened in 2009 and it links the districts of Anderston on the north bank to Tradeston and the neighbouring district of Kingston on the south bank.

The aim of the bridge was to to aid the regeneration of Tradeston by giving it a direct link to the city's financial district on the western side of the city centre.
