Squid Game: Warning issued for parents as new Netflix show grips the world

Netflix have issued a warning to parents about the new horror survival show Squid Game.

The South Korean show has rocketed to the top of the charts worldwide and is set to be the biggest show for the streaming service of 2021.

Squid Game focuses on a group of people who get tricked into competing in a tournament filled with playground and carnival games.

There's an enormous cash prize up for grabs - but if they lose, they are killed by masked assassins who patrol the games.

The nine-episode series is incredibly gory and violent as a result, but the twists and turns have had fans and critics raving about the new show.

However, that violence has caused Netflix to issue a warning to those who watch it, by rating it 15.

Netflix sets maturity ratings by the frequency and impact of mature content in a title, such as the amount of violence, sex, adult language, nudity, or substance use that may be present.

And considering that there are a LOT of murders in this series, it is not surprising to see Squid Game get the warning.

The unlikely heroes of Squid Game include Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), a divorcee who has got himself into serous trouble with a loan shark thanks to his gambling addiction.

He’s approached by a man at a train station, and offered the chance to win a sum of money that will change his life.

Gi-hun is then drugged, waking up in a grim dormitory alongside hundreds of other people, who are all awaiting their turn to take part in the fatal games.

The first episode of the nine-part series sees the contestants play the classic 'Red Light, Green Light' game but viewers were stunned to see the bodies pile high as the traumatised winning contestants progressed to round two.
