Squid Game star to lead Netflix's Korean adaptation of Money Heist

Netflix has revealed that Squid Game's Park Hae-Soo is set to star in the Korean adaptation of Money Heist (La Casa de Papel).

Park Hae-soo will play Berlin, one of the main characters in the Spanish heist drama, Deadline reports.

He played Cho Sang-woo in the hit dystopian thriller series, which Netflix revealed last month was it’s most watched series of all time.

It overtook Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton which was watched by 82 million households.

Squid Game was written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk and attracted 111 million viewers in its first four weeks of launching in September.

Streaming platform Netflix has now revealed one of the stars of Squid Game is set to take on a new role.

The 40-year-old actor will star in the Korean version of La Casa de Papel / Money Heist, as released by Netflix on their Twitter on Tuesday (November 30).

The full cast was announced in March of this year, prior to Squid Game's huge success.

It includes Yoo Ji-tae (The Swindlers, Money, Svaha: The Sixth Finger) as ‘the Professor,’ and Kim Yunjin (Seven Days, Ode to My Father, Lost, Mistresses) as Seon Woojin, an inspector at Task Force Team.

Money Heist/La Casa de Papel is a Spanish crime drama which follows eight thieves all hired by the mysterious "Professor".

Their mission is to take over the Royal Mint in Madrid, to take hostages and lock themselves, as a criminal mastermind manipulates the police to carry out his plan.

The news as Money Heist are set to release their final episodes on Netflix on December 3.

Netflix also teased on Twitter when the Berlin spin-off would air, in a post that read: "This heist might be coming to an end, but the story continues... Berlin: A New Series, coming in 2023"
