Squid Game director reveals new details of season two and debunks key Netflix fan theory

The director of Squid Game has said that a season two could show the "other side" of the game if it does happen.

Hwang Dong-hyuk hasn't confirmed any details of if and when another season could come about, but if it does, he suggested what it would focus on.

And the story of the frontman and the guards in the game could be key to any new season.

He told Forbes: "If I do get to do one — one would be the story of the Frontman [a former cop who now oversees the game]. I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea. I see it on the global news. This was an issue that I wanted to raise. Maybe in season two I can talk about this more.”

And one fan theory that has garnered lots of attention is that at the very start, if a player chose the red card over the blue card they would be a guard rather than a player in the Squid Game.

However, Dong-hyuk said "these viewers are definitely more creative than I am.”

He added that the character played by Gong Yoo was simply a facilitator of the game that was trusted enough to work in the outside world and that the red-blue choice was a reference to an old folktale about a ghost in a bathroom that offered people red or blue tissue, but would kill them no matter what choice they made.
