Squeak dead: Saba's Pivot Gang producer dies at 26 as tributes pour in

Squeak, a member of the Saba-led Chicago-based hip-hop collective Pivot Gang, has died aged 26.

The producer, also known as squeakPIVOT, was the in-house producer for the group alongside Daedae and Daoud.

Chance The Rapper was among the stars leading tribute.

“God bless squeak and every one that loves him," penned the star as he called Squeak a “great man”.

Atlanta rapper Deante Hitchcock wrote: "Rest in power my boi squeakPIVOT smh."

A representative for Pivot Gang confirmed news of the artist's death to Pitchfork on Tuesday morning.

The spokesperson gave no cause of death, however The Tribe reports he was involved in a shooting on Monday evening.

Hours before his death, Squeak took to Twitter and posted: "Can't be uh fallen if ya head still high."

He leaves behind daughter Zhuri and brother Frsh Waters, a fellow member of Pivot Gang.

It's the latest tragedy to hit the group after member John Walt was stabbed to death in 2017.

In response to the tragic news, fans of the star took to Twitter to share their tributes.

One person wrote: "Rest easy Squeak, my condolences to his family and Pivot Gang."

A second penned: "Squeak was so encouraging bro. Supported everybody. Made sure he showed love. Like that was a consistent and conscious effort he made. To make sure mfs knew he was tapped in. This city is truly hell."

"I never got to meet or even talk to squeak but just peeping from what he was doing from afar was always inspiring, my heart really goes out to his family and friends man," a third shared.

Squeak, who enjoyed a successful career, was best known as the in-house producer for the Pivot Gang, alongside Daedae and Daoud.

He previously revealed in 2018 how spending time in the studio with the Pivot Gang crew inspired him to start making music.

"I'm listening to what they all made that day—I was like, 'Wow, they're actually talking about s**t'," Squeak told Chicago Reader.

"I was like, 'All right, I just don't wanna be around just to be around—I have to do something'."

Squeak also revealed he started DJ'ing after landing his first gig in 2015 with John Walt - who died aged 24.

He told Elevator Mag: "He's the reason I started DJ’ing. My first beat, he rapped on it. He did that s**t, that s**t was great with him and Melo.

"That was my first production into the world. But yea, I just be Pivoting everywhere I go. That's why my name is SqueakPivot, because Pivot is the reason I be out here."
