Around 55 squatters, who were evicted from a property in Redfield today (August 20), have no roof above their heads this evening.
According to Chris Gedge, who was one of the people occupying the building on Albert Street, most of his friends now face sleeping in tents in the city's parks and green spaces.
Emergency crews descended on Church Road at around 2pm to help bailiffs carry out the eviction.
Chris, who is a member of Bristol Housing Action Movement, a charity which aims to find accommodation for the homeless, said: “We have been occupying this place on and off for eight years.
“We have had over 55 people living here at one point. Now we are being evicted. Loads of people now are going to be forced into tents and active squatting again.”
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said officers were assisting in a civil matter.
He sad: “We left at 3.30pm having made no arrests.”
Photographs from the scene show at least eight officers standing outside the derelict house which stands at the corner of Albert Street.
Several concerned witnesses contacted Bristol Live after spotting police vehicles outside their home.
One witness said: "A huge group of people and vehicles and a tent are down Albert Street. Up to two vans and three cars now."
We have approached both the Bristol Housing Action Movement and the properties’ owner for further comment on the eviction.
