Square sausage katsu curry being served up in Glasgow Japanese restaurant

Katsu curry has surged in popularity in Glasgow in recent years - that crispy, crunchy panko chicken proving to be one of the city's most ordered meals and takeaways, as we reported in September.

And as demand for delicious katsu grows, the more and more restaurants try to put their own twist on the number one Japanese dish.

A new Shawlands restaurant has taken things a little further, fusing Scottish and Far Eastern cuisine together by serving up square sausage katsu curry.

For Burns Night, the Kilmarnock Road fusion food venue presented number of dishes to celebrate the life of the bard including haggis katsu curry, vegan haggis katsu curry, futomaki haggis and the aforementioned unorthodox square sausage katsu.

Before opening in Glasgow's south side at the end of last year, Koku Shi already gained a reputation for its daring Scottish Japanese dishes and was the first ever restaurant to bring haggis sushi to the table.

Are we sold on the latest culinary creation? We'd certainly be willing to give it a try.
