Square Enix says Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is ‘progressing’

While Final Fantasy 16 may be getting all the attention, Square Enix says work on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, officially called Rebirth, is still going well. The comment comes from the official Final Fantasy VII Twitter page and is the first we’ve heard about the RPG since June 2022, when Square Enix first unveiled it during an anniversary celebration.

The post was in the form of a Q&A.

“How is development progressing on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?”

“Development is progressing smoothly and according to plan,” series producer Yoshinori Kitase said in response. “We are currently working on nailing down a release date for the game.”

Square Enix only mentioned a vague winter 2023 release time frame when the publisher announced Remake Part 2, and it sounds like there might not be any delays or changes to that.

As for what to expect from Remake Part 2, well, that’s another matter. The trailer showed Zack Fair with Cloud, and if you’ve played the Intergrade DLC, you know that’s probably not a flashback. Zack is supposed to be very dead, and Genesis – another Intergrade introduction – should have no role to play in the main story of Final Fantasy 7.

What’s going on is anyone’s guess, but hopefully, we won’t have to wait long to find out more.
