He is a player Carlo Ancelotti likes a lot, and it now appears that James Rodriguez could be set for a reunion with his former boss.
The Everton manager would like to bring the attacker to Goodison Park, a deal has been discussed with the club's board and Rodriguez himself is keen for a reunion.
A transfer for the playmaker might be difficult to pull off, however, given his reported £200-a-week plus wage demands.
Blues boss Ancelotti signed the 29-year-old when he was in charge of Real Madrid before re-signing when he moved to become manager of Bayern Munich.
And should the Real forward arrive at Goodison this summer then he will need a squad number - and there are a few available to him.
During his time at Bayern, Rodriguez wore the number 11 shirt which is currently occupied by Theo Walcott.
His Real squad number is also currently number 11, but he has also worn the number 10 shirt in the past.
But that shirt number is currently occupied by Gylfi Sigurdsson, and many of the traditional numbers are already taken.
Only 3, 4, 6, 15, 19, are available from the numbers 1 to 25, while 26, 27, 31, 32, 34, and 49 are also taken by first-team squad members, according to the club's official website.
However, it is worth noting that a number of the Everton squad wore new numbers for their match against Blackpool at the weekend.
Mason Holgate switched from the number 2 to 4, while the returning Jonjoe Kenny switched from 43 to 28.
Summer signing Niels Nkounkou wore Djibril Sidibe's number 19 shirt for the clash at Bloomfield Road.
While other changes include Anthony Gordon switching from number 42 to 24, Muhamed Besic taking the number 30 jersey and Yannick Bolasie moving over to number 29.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the 'summer' transfer window this year, with deals and rumours set to rumble on until October 5.
Whatever the case though, any incomings will need shirt numbers and there could be a battle for the most desired.
