Spurs Women sent strong message ahead of facing Bristol City after Aston Villa loss in WSL clash

Tottenham Hotspur Women defender Kerys Harrop hopes her side can learn lessons from their 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa and put them to use next time out.

It was the second loss for Spurs in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in 2021, as Mana Iwabuchi’s strike gave Villa the win.

With a quick turnaround between matches and a tough encounter against Bristol City up next, Harrop trusts her side will be better prepared.

“It’s a really disappointing result,” Harrop said. “Obviously, we dominated the whole game really but they had their one strike – it’s a great strike to be fair to her, it’s a rocket.

“It’s one of those games. It’s going to be similar again against Bristol on Wednesday, so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise and some good prep for Wednesday.”

The gaps at the bottom of the table have begun to close and Spurs sit seventh in the league but are only seven points above Bristol, who are at the foot.

Despite her side dominating possession and having chances on goal, Harrop was disappointed they were unable to break down Villa.

She added: “We worked on it in training because we knew they’d sit back deep and get bodies behind the ball.

“You practise it in training and it goes well but then it comes to a matchday and it didn’t seem to gel. That’s something we’ll look on in the analysis ahead of Wednesday because it will probably be quite similar.

“We’ve got to analyse the game – work on the negatives, take the positives from it – and just put it to bed now. It’s gone. There’s nothing we can do about it now.”
