Spurs watching Premier League star as Jose Mourinho backed to end club's trophy wait

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Wednesday, December 2.

Spurs keeping tabs on White

Tottenham have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in keeping a firm eye on the developments of highly-rated Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White.

Following a successful loan spell at Leeds United last season, playing a key role in helping the Whites end their Premier League exile, the 23-year-old has adapted to life in the Premier League like a duck to water.

White has cemented himself as a first-team regular at the Amex Stadium so far this season, starting all 10 of the Seagulls' league matches.

But with his performances continuing to go from strength to strength, White is being monitored by a plethora of clubs, including Spurs, meaning there could be a battle to sign him in the not too distant future.

White signed a new contract with the Seagulls during the summer after Leeds failed in their attempts to re-sign him on a permanent basis.

Defoe: "I see a trophy coming"

Former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe believes it is only a matter of time before his old club ends its wait for a trophy.

Spurs have not lifted any piece of silverware since laying their hands on the League Cup back in 2008.

However, with Spurs flying high at the top of the Premier League, Defoe, who had three different spells in north London, believes a trophy is right around the corner.

Defoe said: "Of course they can. It's not me being biased, I'm just looking at the performances.

"I'm looking at the performances and we have Jose Mourinho. People can say what they want, but we have Mourinho and we are playing the way we are, so anything can happen.

"I see a trophy coming anyway."

As well as being confident about Spurs ending their wait for a trophy, the former England striker also lavished praise on Mourinho for the way he has brought the very best out of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min this season.

Spurs poised for £4m injection

After a successful summer transfer window, all eyes will be on Tottenham when the January window opens in a little over a month's time.

The summer saw Spurs get deals done for the likes of Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as well as landing Gareth Bale on a season-long loan.

Having splashed the cash in the summer months, it is unlikely that the club will spend huge amounts of money again in January.

Next summer, though, they could be inline to recoup almost £4million in money they have been spending on wages.
