Spurs training session: Eriksen returns but one player stays in the gym and another trains alone

The Tottenham Hotspur players were out training in the rain ahead of their Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade.

The players looked to be in high spirits despite the weather, some of them playing a game of keepy uppy outside the training ground doors before heading out to the pitches.

Among the group taking part in the main session were Christian Eriksen, who looked to have recovered from his dead leg, and summer signings Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon who returned to training last week. Sessegnon slipped over during one drill and looked at the gathered camera with a hint of embarrassment but also a big smile on his face.

Youngster Troy Parrott was also involved but fellow academy player Japhet Tanganga trained alone on a different pitch with a member of the sports science staff, usually the drill for players who are close to returning after an injury.

Hugo Lloris will be out through injury until 2020 and has headed abroad with his family as he continues his recuperation following his dislocated elbow.

Tottenham v Watford: Mauricio Pochettino full post-match press conference

Michel Vorm, who was brought in to provide cover in Lloris' absence, was not out training with the goalkeepers at Hotspur Way and instead worked with staff in the gym as he looked to increase his fitness after four months out of the gym.

That left Paulo Gazzaniga, Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman to work with goalkeeping coach Toni Jiminez on a separate pitch from the outfield players.

The other players were split into three groups where they went through various drills with the coaching staff, who included the manager's son Sebastiano Pochettino.

They remained in those groups to undertake boxes - a form of piggy in the middle - and Mauricio Pochettino joined the group which included Lo Celso, Son Heung-min and Sessegnon.

The Spurs boss had proudly said last week that he survived a boxes game without going in the middle once on Thursday and he just about survived a few close calls this time before finally having to take his place in the centre.
