Tottenham fans given cause for optimism as toughest run of the Premier League season almost over

It's been a mixed start to the season for Spurs, with one win, two draws and a defeat from their opening four games.

While Mauricio Pochettino will be disappointed with the loss against Newcastle at home, their two away draws came in what are usually two of the most difficult fixtures of the campaign: Manchester City and Arsenal away.

And Spurs have consistently ended their seasons strongly under Pochettino, with their performance levels tending to peak after the winter months.

But can they move on from a tricky start? The Fantasy Premier League Fixture Difficulty Ranking, or FDR, suggests that the toughest run of fixtures this campaign is nearly over.

Fantasy Premier League claim their FDR method is based on a complex algorithm developed by their team of experts.

It uses a set of formulas that process key Opta data variables, along with each team's home and away form for the past six meetings, to generate a rank for the perceived difficulty of each Gameweek opponent.

The FDR is designed to help FPL managers plan their transfer and team selection strategy. It is reviewed on a weekly basis and updated as the season progresses.

It is a system that scores fixtures from one to five, with one being the easiest and five being the hardest.

According to the FDR analysis of the season, Tottenham's toughest matches are against Manchester City and Liverpool and both away from home - having already picked up a point against Pep Guardiola's side.

Their next most difficult fixtures, scored four out of five, are Arsenal (away), Everton (away), Manchester United (away), Chelsea (home), Liverpool (home), Manchester City (home), Chelsea (away), Manchester United (home) and Arsenal (home).
