Spurs target Jack Clarke's first season under Mauricio Pochettino simulated by Football Manager

Tottenham have not completed the signing of any player since January 2018 - but this summer's transfer window should see Spurs splash the cash once again.

After a fourth place Premier League finish and a Champions League final appearance in the last campaign, the expectation is that Mauricio Pochettino will have at least some funds to work with in this window.

The latest player to be linked with a move to Spurs is youngster Jack Clarke, who currently plays for Leeds United.

The 18-year-old is a hugely exciting talent, who could be a great match for Tottenham, and the kind of talent Pochettino would love to work with.

So, if Spurs did sign Clarke, what kind of impact could he make?

And, would he get into the first team?

We used Football Manager 2019 to find out.

Jack Clarke - first season at Spurs under Pochettino

To set up this simulation, we used a fan made editor file to sort out all the latest player transfers, manager changes, promotions, relegations, cup winners and playoff winners, to make the game as realistic as possible.

We then loaded up the Football Manager editor, set a future transfer of £15 million which sees Jack Clarke move to Spurs on July 1 2019 and simulated the 2019/20 season, to see how he gets on.

Here's what happened.

Due to the sheer strength of the current Spurs squad, Clarke predominantly played for the Under-23 side, making 38 appearances, scoring 13 goals and registering nine assists for the youth side.

However, he did make eight substitute appearances for Tottenham in the Premier League, scoring once, a last-gasp winner in a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.

Not a bad way to score your first goal.

Jack Clarke's improvement under Pochettino

But, Clarke did make significant progress in terms of development from working with Pochettino.

A number of his attributes saw increases, in technical, mental and physical categories. He also lost 2kg of weight under Pochettino, something to do with the Argentine's training methods?

Here is a picture comparing his profile when he joined and his profile at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Increased attributes are highlighted in red.

The sum of all these small changes meant that his current ability increased from 119 to 132 out of 200 in a year, which is a significant increase.

Clarke didn't have much to do with it, although he was directly responsible for winning Spurs two points single-handedly, Spurs finished third with Clarke as part of the squad.

According to Football Manager 2019, Clarke isn't quite at the level required to make an impact in the Spurs first team yet, but he would still improve significantly through working with Pochettino.
