Spurs striker Harry Kane gives verdict on England’s thumping of Ukraine

Spurs striker Harry Kane was left hailing a “perfect” England performance as the Three Lions booked their place in the semi-finals of Euro 2020 against Ukraine.

Gareth Southgate’s team were irresistible in Rome, racking up a comprehensive 4-0 victory, with Spurs’ Kane picking up where he left off against Germany with two goals.

In the end, it was a relatively straight-forward route into the last four of the competition for England on what could have been an awkward night at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, Kane was left hugely impressed by his team’s professionalism throughout the tie.

Talking to the BBC after the full-time whistle, he said: “What a great performance in a big, big game.

“There was a lot of pressure on us, we were favourites to win this game, but there’s a lot of pressure and expectation. So, to perform like we did was top drawer, another clean sheet and four goals. It was the perfect night for us.”

Whilst much of the talk surrounding the England team is hugely positive as it stands, one contentious issue throughout the tournament has been Kane’s personal form.

The Spurs forward failed to get on the scoresheet during the group stage but now has three goals in two games and sits just two strikes behind joint-top scorers Patrick Schick and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane has been predictably defiant over his own showings and his aiming to extend his goalscoring run staring with the semi-final tie against Denmark at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.

“It’s always nice as a striker to score early in the game. It’s always a great feeling helping your team. There was a lot of talk around me and my performances, but I’m ready for the next game and try to lead this team to hopefully a European final.”
