Spurs steamroll Pistons, 136-109

SAN ANTONIO _ The Detroit Pistons were hoping a blowout victory would provide momentum going into a long trip.

It was wishful thinking.

The Pistons started a six-game, 12-night trip Saturday night with a 136-109 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

The 136 points were a season high for points allowed.

The Spurs used a 42-point third quarter to run away from the Pistons, who dropped their sixth out of seven games.

The Pistons (12-21) snapped a five-game losing streak Thursday with a 132-102 victory over the undermanned Washington Wizards at Little Caesars Arena.

But the bad play returned with Blake Griffin once again the main culprit.

Griffin was 3 for 16 and missed all of his attempts from inside the 3-point circle, failing to finish inside against the likes of Trey Lyles and Jakob Poeltl.

Griffin was 3 for 10 from 3-point range after going 0 for 12 the previous two games.

Derrick Rose played well, scoring 15 of his team-high 24 points in the first half.

Andre Drummond was hunting offense early, attempting 10 shots in the first quarter, finishing with 21 points, 18 rebounds and four blocked shots on 7-for-16 shooting.

DeMar DeRozan scored 29 points on 13-for-16 shooting to lead the Spurs (13-18).

LaMarcus Aldridge scored 25 points and was 5 for 6 from 3-point range. The Spurs made a season-high 18 3-pointers.

The Pistons were without Markieff Morris (left foot soreness).

The Grand Rapids Drive, the Pistons' Gatorade League affiliate, returned to action Saturday night after a six-day break, but two-way contract player Louis King remains with the main squad.

The Pistons were shorthanded at the forward spot with Morris and Sekou Doumbouya (illness) unavailable, so King was active against the Spurs.

Pistons coach Dwane Casey said developmental players need some time in the big leagues.

"It's very important to come get a taste of the NBA to see how it is, what it is to be a professional, all those things. It's not just playing, there is a lot for young kids to learn," Casey said. "If there's a chance to get them in the game, get some action, that's even better."

King entered the game during garbage time and promptly made a 3-pointer. He finished with five points on three shots.
